Anita Murcko, MD, FACP, FAMIA

Dr. Murcko is an informatics pioneer, board-certified internal medicine physician, clinical associate professor of biomedical informatics at Arizona State University (ASU),interim director for the ASU Center for Health Information and Research, Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine faculty and the site director for HonorHealth’s Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program. She earned her MD from the University of Pittsburgh, PA and completed a categorical internal medicine residency at Indiana University, IN. Her research domain is clinical decision support, with a range of policy-impact projects focus on the digital integration of physical, social, cultural, and mental health information and mobile applications to support clinical care and informed consent. Dr. Murcko teaches clinical informatics courses for health professionals, graduate and undergraduate students.

Prior to joining ASU, she practiced and taught internal medicine in downtown Phoenix for over twenty-five years, worked as a physician executive in public and private sectors and founded an e-health consulting company.  As the Chief Medical Officer for the quality improvement organization, Health Services Advisory Group, Dr. Murcko led transformative national and local collaboratives that enhanced data sharing, transparency, and chronic disease management. At the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), Arizona’s Medicaid agency, she served as Medical Director for Clinical Informatics and Provider Adoption, providing clinical leadership for Arizona’s first health information exchange, e-prescribing and electronic health record (EHR) initiatives. 

Dr. Murcko has received multiple awards, most recently the American College of Physicians (ACP) Arizona Laureate for lifetime contributions to healthcare, ACP Leader of the Year for work in advocacy and health policy, and the Arizona State University CHS Distinguished Faculty of the Year award. Dr. Murcko has lived in Arizona since 1989 where she and her internist husband enjoy the great outdoors and are active in the local arts community.
